There are significant logistical challenges to running an Open House on the Island. An event cannot occur during the tern mating season and must be coordinated with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Coast Guard and other agencies. Landing visitors on the island is a challenge due to dock limitations and securing a licensed commercial vessel to ferry visitors to the dock is also difficult. After many years, an open house was held in 2023 and the FLB hopes to hold another one in 2027, stay tuned. In the meantime, boaters are encouraged to drop an anchor by the island and bring binoculars to view the wildlife on the island. Reminder, landing on the island is not permitted as it is a federal wildlife sanctuary.
